Awful Truth? Try Awful MOVIE!

I love classic films but I guess screwball comedy just isn't my bag. I recorded about 45 minutes of it from TCM the other night and just sat down to watch it. It started on the scene where Dunne showed up at Grant's place and kept answering the phone which resulted in him lying to his new lady about Dunne being his sister. It quickly went south from there. I suppose we are supposed to find Dunne's antics cute and endearing because neither character is ready to let the other one go but I just found her annoying. When she showed up at the dinner party as his "sister" and proceeded to ruin any hope he had at being happy with Barbara (and his soon-to-be in-laws), I was annoyed. When they left the party early and she pretended to be drunk and rowdy and nearly got him in trouble with the cops TWICE, I'd had enough. I shut it off and completely deleted it from my DVR. How did movies like this get made? And sadly, with Ben Stiller movies around, they are STILL being made. Does anyone else find this kind of comedy unbearable to watch?

I'm sorry but you are really stupid to review a movie based on only watching the last 45 minutes of the movie. Why did you not record the whole movie???? If you actually watch this movie from beginning to end I am pretty sure you will like it. Watch it again from the BEGINNING and then leave a review!!

This post is sublime in its illogical meaninglessness. I once was offered a fine meal, there was unfortunately a pea or two included and I have an aversion to peas so left it and went for a burger.

I love this movie. I could watch it every day, it is absurd and wonderful, and the scene with Mr. Smith barking along to the piano cannot ever be matched.

What has always confused me is the early scene with Cary Grant giving his friends eggnog. Eggnog? What is that all about? But it's all silly — and probably as perfect as a film can get, unless your tastes trend to "The Godfather" and such.

What about the singing scene with Joyce Compton? It was really cute and funny.

It's a wonderful film, but you started watching it after most of the funny stuff has happened. I find a car/motorcycle sequence a bit loud and draggy(I can't stand loud noise), but you should really see it from the beginning.

If you can't figure out the proper order in which to watch a movie and if you think you can judge an entire movie after only having watched a few minutes at the end, you should just move on. This one, as you have noticed yourself, is not for you.

Perhaps you should look into the movies being made by conceptual artists. I think that's what they're called. None of them seem to have a plot and they don't make sense. You can start watching at any point in the movie and it makes no difference. Enjoy!

I adore screwball comedies, but, that said, they irritate me if I start to watch from the middle. If you aren't in the mood they build from the 1st scene, you can't enjoy it at its best. They start with relationships, attractions, affections, and move to silly disputes. Which you cannot take personally if you see from the start. That's how they're written. You have to get the jokes.

The op apparently began watching this 90 minute movie at about the 70 minute mark! Her opinion is therefore useless, and her attempts to compare it to Ben Stiller's oeuvre are just downright bizarre. This movie is awesome, one of the funniest I've ever seen.

Cary Grant=Ben Stiller? Put down the crack pipe and step away from the keyboard. Irene Dunne is just fantastic also. He facial expressions are priceless and her chemistry with Grant here and in "My Favorite Wife" are fantastic.

“Willoughby, sir? That’s Willoughby right outside. It’s July. It’s summer. It’s 1888.”

The original, poster said Irene Dunne was annoying in this film. If you want to see an. Annoying actress try Katharine Hepburn in "Bringing Up Baby" or "The Philadelphia Story". Now THAT woman WAS annoying! Dunne was wonderful in this movie and one of the best comedies in film history!
