I mean I think old school it was a rich white girl's name. But now every Cynthia is black.

I did know two white Cynthia's back when I was in High School in Alaska in the 90's. At the moment I just know of one here in The South but she's also in her 40's.

The reason I ask this is because my older sister's name is Cynthia. But she's embarrassed by it so she calls herself "Cindy". Which used to enrage our dad because he said "Cindy" is short for "Cinderella", not "Cynthia".

I suppose because it's a long name and sounded pretentious. The family still calls her Cynthia. But her friends call her Cindy.

I see. I had a friend in middle school named Veronica and she felt like the name was "too grown up" so we called her Ronnie instead.
