John Boyega blames racism once again.
He makes it sound like he was supposed to be a lead and is now some obscure side character.

Absolutely!!! Completely agree!!
sharelol
He could have been a star in the best star wars trilogy ever! Damn racists!
Every black person on the planet has only racism to blame if they have not risen to the status of GOD.
It is the only excuse.
You don't think any black actor has ever had a valid complaint in that regard? Obviously not talking about your facetious suggestion that black actors want to be seen as a GOD, but in terms of black actors being passed over in favour of a lighter face regardless of their acting talent? I don't think it's such a big deal to acknowledge that occurs. It doesn't mean everyone in Hollywood is intrinsically racist, but writing off everyone who makes such a complaint or suggesting that all black actors complain about nothing seems short-sighted to me.
I wonder if there will ever come a day when this is not an issue worth talking about any more? God that would be great.

I think he's mocking white Christians. How could anyone say that shit with a straight face? God status, lol

If they can’t prove that they were held back because of racism then they shouldn’t be claiming they were. It’s a very reckless and disgusting accusation to level against someone
shareConsidering how people didn't like the most recent movies, I'm sure he didn't miss out. Daisy Ridley most likely wont work as much as he will.
shareisn't he from the dagobah system?
shareWhites are the problem!
shareAlways.

shareI haven't seen that movie in years and I don't remember that scene.
shareI think his wordings may be a bit misconstrued. What I think he was saying is that they shouldn't have put him in such a leading role in the beginning then throw him off as a side character near the end of the trilogy. I mean he was the main sidekick of Mary Sue and then it just became Mary Sue and her gran-daddy issues. Karen issues trump tokenism issues. They didn't want Mary Sue to be a nobody (parents) that can do everything no more so they had to plot something to give reason why she is a Mary Sue.
TFA started off with Finn in the beginning before switching to Mary Sue. I think the story would've been better with Finn instead of Rey if you think about it. A stormtrooper turned jedi.
That would have been pretty cool.
shareAs far as wokeness is concerned, metoo trumps blm
shareHe's not misconstruing anything. Boyega said all the depth was given to the white characters.
shareIf he means Rey and Kylo Ren were given most of the depth well yeah because they were the main characters. Even so Poe and Finn still had a reasonable amount of depth for side characters. The guy is whining about getting lucky and being given a great deal.
"If he means Rey and Kylo Ren were given most of the depth well yeah because they were the main characters.'
Well yeah, soooo....
I'm aware of what he said. He's implying he was advertised as the lead but then became a side character.
I find his comment strange because he's a pretty prominent character throughout the entire series. He even brings up Oscar Isaac who is also in the series quite a bit.
My guess is they already had a good plan for the trilogy before it was even cast. They likely didnt even know who was going to be in each part until after the whole thing was outlined. Now he wants to bitch because he didnt get a part that morphed into some lead at the end. I dont recall the actor picked for Darth maul botching when he part was eliminated in his first appearance

Well he did know he was done after the first film so I doubt he had any thoughts of his character being in the next films let alone being important in them.

Having said that I do agree that after The Force Awakens did setup a trifecta of Rey, Finn and Poe. Rian Johnson came in and decided that *his* story was more important than the entire story that had been told through the previous 7 films. Rian basically stopped the development of Finn as part of the trifecta and made him a side character.
