With Games of Thrones over, how will you reckon her career will go

Out of all the main cast, she's the one I'm 50/50 on where her career will go. I could see her doing a lot of TV and a lot of indie work probably stage work. But I see her been in that group to be overshadowed by the show and still be seen as Arya. I'm sure a lot of the cast won't escape that either. You could say Richard Madden and Jason Momoa are the only ones who have escaped it.

A string of direct-to-video and Sy-Fy channel fantasy movies. SF and Comic Book convention circuit selling autographed pictures.

That's more than most actors get.

It's true, those comic book autograph sessions and q and a's bring in a lot of money especially with a show as big as Games of Thrones is. At least most of the cast who don't have prolong careers will have a great pay day from those things.

I could see Maisie easily slipping into TV shows mostly comedies or drama's on ITV or BBC (for any UK TV followers, I don't know the American versions of those would be), the ones that are popular but aren't going to last long in the memory like GOT. More in supporting roles. Could see her doing a lot of stage work. And British indie films. I just don't see her been a top star, to be fair I don't see many from the cast going on to A List careers.

It will go nowhere.

she'll probably appear on tv shows but I doubt she gets the lead in many of those and its even less likely she gets major movie roles.

reply

She's got several things working against her.

One, young stars who make bank on a movie early in their career, especially if its high profile, seldom seem to have the drive to continue their career. It's pretty easy to coast on their earnings and live in the party scene. It's worse for actresses, as they can't take a gap year, they have to front load their careers while they are young as roles for women dry up in their mid-late 30s.

Her big role was in a fantasy show, so she's kind of got the "science fiction/fantasy" label stuck to her. You can probably work this into a career, but the typecasting will keep you from rising up to more critically acclaimed roles.

The other is she doesn't fit Hollywood's model of beauty, and this will keep her out of a lot of productions as well.

If she was smart, she'd invest well, pad it out with as much SF/fantasy as she can get cast for, and look forward to a life of leisure at 30.

Odds are none of the actors will ever do anything bigger than GoT (Momoa being an exception). It was one of the two biggest shows of this decade, and possibly ever. Someone can have a long and great career without topping the show, but that wouldn't mean they didn't do anything.

One of the great advantages that these actors have now that wasn't around in the past was all the streaming services who are also making a lot of their own content. This creates a whole lot more opportunities for actors to continue working on projects that will be seen, and maybe get lucky catch on with something that's a hit. As you said, Madden has done well so far, in part due to two Netflix shows. Pedro Pascal has a hit now with The Mandalorian, and was also in Triple Frontier with Affleck. I've also seen Benjen Stark in a show, and Stannis playing King Longshanks in The Outlaw King.

reply

As long as they can continue to make bank I dont see the issue.
