one flop away from extinction
is Hollywood done with Aussie actresses ?
shareShe may get a chance at a real movie. People need to know she is married and won't take her clothes off anymore.
shareI read a few tweets from influential sites saying Babylon is Robbies 4th major bomb in a row (BoP, TSS, Amsterdam) and if Barbie fails to be a hit (anything from at least 300m+) then she could be done as a major film star (with younger less expensive versions of her up and coming like Samara Weaving etc),
also shes most likely done as Harley Quinn now as GaGa has taken over the role in Joker 2 - sure to be a massive hit, (unlike Birds of Prey which pretty much squandered her break out Suicide Squad box office potential as HQ), and then the critically well received TSS bombed for various reasons (covid/same day streaming which also made Matrix4 drastically underperform but Dune was still a 400m hit , plus no Will Smith/Joker/Batman etc). and as is now known (ironically) Gunn is purging the DCEU which Robbies HQuinn is part of.
of course if Barbie hits big (crazy big) there will inevitability be Barbie 2,3 etc and all kinds of other lead movie roles for her and likes of Babylon/Amsterdam will be forgot like any bombs were for likes of Keanu, Brad, Angelina etc , but it could all hinge in Barbie being a hit or not if shes able to continue as 'Margot Robbie'
Samara Weaving was in Snake Eyes bomb, no way can she carry any movie that isn't a horror movie
shareMaybe as an A Lister but it seems no matter how many flops some actors have they still continue getting work.
As an Aussie I am amazed at some of our actors who make it big or are given opportunities in Hollywood. Namely Ruby Rose who never had an amazing career here in the first place.
She hasn't had an amazing career here either. I know she's been in more than just this, but off the top of my head all I can remember her from is John Wick II (where she had no lines), and that God-awful Batwoman TV series (which she walked out on -- though in retrospect, that might have been a smart career move). Whatever else she's done, it certainly hasn't made any impression on me.
shareShe seems to be a very flat type of actress to me, no personality. She rides the Woke wave and I am sure that opened some doors for her but she seems to have slammed quite a few in her own face as well.
shareI think that she might have simply ridden the woke wave to what limited success she's had. In other words, as a lesbian female, she's benefited from a kind of informal affirmative action. Because of how she identifies, she's benefited from an ideology-based, artificial promotion, and thus elevated above where her innate talents would have taken her. So, because she checked the right identity boxes, leftist executives in Hollywood gave her more chances than she could have gotten on pure merit, but she still wasn't good enough to establish herself, even with that unfair foot in the door.
And you could also be right: being an entitled, woke millennial, she could have figured the unearned Batwoman job wasn't as cushy as she feels she'd owed, and left it for that reason. Who knows? Walking out on it probably didn't do her any favors though. Even woke, leftist, SJW executives tend to take note of ingratitude, and react accordingly.
I think Ruby has some mental issues as well. At the end of the day it won't matter if she is a covergirl for the Woke thing if she is unreliable and as you say ungrateful. For an unknown (in the States anyway) to get that Batwoman role was a pretty big thing. For her to then leave the show hanging the way she did it doesn't look good.
Obviously I don't follow her career but from a quick glance on IMDb it seems she has had some roles since Batwoman but nothing of note, to me anyway.
Margot Robbie was never a movie star. But Hollywood tried to make her happen. But all her success was as a supporting role in a ensemble or when other actors carried the movie.
She's a good actress. I think she could go back to smaller movies, like I, Tonya, if need be. I hope she doesn't go away.
shareBumping because she is pretty and better to look at than that oily pimple-faced murderer
shareBarbie actually working as a movie was a longshot. I dont think she can be blamed for that one.
