Is it because after they post an OP or reply comment they click some "ignore" or secret "block" option. I don't get it.

I had this same question on another board. In some cases the user will be deleted not long after making the post.
I'm not sure if the user is deleting their own account or if it is deleted by a mod. It seems to be a bit of a mystery.

I actually discovered the cause of this on another thread. If you are logged in to multiple devices, such as desktop and mobile, then delete your account on one of them, you can still continue to post on the other as [deleted] for as long as you don't log out on the alternate device.
I'm not sure why anyone would actually want to do this, but it explains what's going on.

That's a good possibility. There's no way that I can see to report the user that has been deleted.
Now that I know what's going on and possibly why, I am curious enough that I'm thinking about creating a dummy account to test it. Time to fire up the VPN!
