True free speech was only available to corporate owned media, because nobody can hear you without a media platform. And corporate censorship was only used on journalists before internet, so we don't feel it.

Internet enabled free speech to much greater extent, but now we see even the president of united states could not escape corporate censorship, that just created more awareness of the power of billionaire media owners.
