We don't really know the guy, but he is clearly trying to do some good.
Not for fame, not for personal profit, he did what he thought was right.
Even Robin Hood stole from rich partially for himself. This guy is not poor, he is effective batman for the average folks. Not the corporate batman working with "the commissioner", fought for the establishment.
Of course for that the establishment decided he must die.
If the comic book batman pulls something like that, they are going to find out who he is so fast before he can finish saying:"I am bat---!".
