I can definitely see your concerns, but look at it as a healthy career move. Every actor dreams of being successful and having that dream role that will open up doors and give them that breakthrough. If they didn't they would just stick to theatre.
A good example is Rob Pattison. None of the "Twilight" fans wanted him to play Edward Cullen and even went as far as to call Rob a gargoyle. As you can see they eventually came around when the first film was released and "Twilight" did a lot for Robs career giving him more choices.
