It's possible, but unlikely that he'll get another chance at being the lead in a big budget film. It's a crowded field, and with so many choices why would a director or producer bother to give him another chance? He's certainly pretty, but he's not a great actor and he lacks real screen presence. And then you add his personality issues to the mix . . . An actor can get away with being difficult if he/she is established as a supremely talented and/or a box office draw. So someone like Christian Bale (who is both an established talent and a draw) can be difficult if he wants and he'll still get roles.
With respect to AP, being pretty is enough at first, especially in the YA market, but for the most part he's aged out of that genre. It takes more than pretty to succeed in adult roles.
I think his best chance for a comeback is TV. The CW or ABC Family (now called something else) would probably be very interested. The bar for acting isn't that high on those networks. And someone can make a very nice career on TV. Also, if he behaved professionally for several years on a TV show and his acting improved, studios might look at him again for film roles.
