Yes to all of the above. Indeed, regarding how beautiful she is, I would add that she's even more beautiful now than she was 5 years ago, certainly more than she was 10 years ago when she was doing small parts on E.R. and Veronica Mars. Regarding how talented she is, as ambitious and competitive as I think Ms. Chastain is, I think she'd just be happy to be mentioned in the same conversation with Marion Cotillard (about whom she's said nothing but great things) and Kate Winslet as the best actresses of their generation.

I agree with both of you! She's fabulous!

Since they are only 2 years apart it is accurate to say Ms. Chastain is of the same generation as Kate Winslet, and I would say Ms. Winslet has had the better track record of impressive performances.

But lately? I get the impression that Ms. Winslet is not getting the same number of quality parts, or the same number, regardless. In other words Ms. Chastain seems on a role now.

I would also mention Amy Adams in this mix. Right now she does not have much in or about to be in the theater, but it would be a mistake to forget her in any most talented actress discussion.

She's one of the most talented actresses but there are many talented actresses and by saying that only one of them is the most talented, their work and effort seem less important !!! For me , the best actresses are Jessica Chastain Jennifer Lawrence Anne Hathaway Cate Blanchett Marion Cotillard and Nicole Kidman !! Of course there are many other talented actresses!!!

Hm. Cate Blanchett is excellent if well cast, but I sometimes think in trying to stretch she takes roles that are not necessarily a good or convincing fit for her.

Marion Cotillard I have seen little of, but yes in what I have seen she is very good.

Nicole Kidman needs a good part to do well. I don't think she does much more than that. Yes, though, I do think she is very good.

Anne Hathaway I would hardly think is in anyone's top tier. She puts in workmanlike performances, but that's about it.

Jennifer Lawrence - I can see why some really like her, and I think she is very good. Just not at the top.

My top right now including the problematic mention of Cate Blanchette would still be Kate Winslet on top more for past work, with Jessica Chastain and Amy Adams right behind her. Perhaps Julie Delpy also deserves mention here, and fwiw I did think Patricia Arquette was a very deserving Oscar winner when that is not always the case.

Some others include the excellent work Sienna Miller did in American Sniper. she has had a somewhat uneven career but i have always been impressed with her work.

Keira Knightley I find immensely attractive and that may skew my assessment of her. But she has also done excellent work, as in Dangerous Methods. I also found her to be the best part of The Imitation Game.

Kelly Macdonald has not had a great deal of great film parts while she worked in Boardwalk Empire, but she imo is a wonderful and underrated actress.

And in mentioning actresses who have spent more time in tv I think Elisabeth Moss and Christina Hendrick deserve mentions for their work in Mad Men.

i agree with most of what you mentioned !except for your opinion for Anne Hathaway!I believe that shes very talented but she sometimes chooses roles that doesnt fit to her!But she is outstanding in roles that fit her,like Fantine in Les Miserables, Kym in Rachel Getting Married ,Selina in The Dark Knight Rises,Maggie in Love and other drugs!and she is very good or at least solid in other roles!i havent seen a bad from her(if we dont count bride wars of course,but the whole film sucked,so...)And i saw her on stage in Grounded this year and she was magnificent!

She is amazing, both on stage and on screen. But there are several actors who can do more with their craft than Jess. Actors like Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, and of course Meryl.
