To me, Mike Pinder was the mystical soul of the Moody Blues for the classic 7 albums, and the band was never quite the same without him. They still wrote some fine songs, but the special magic that Pinder brought to the band was missed. Think I'll listen to "Melancholy Man" later today ...
I've seen The MOODY BLUES Twice in Concert. Once with The FIXX opening up for them and the other time I want to say SANTANA opened for them, but can't be for certain given how many decades ago that was.. 🤔
shareSad news indeed. Mike gave them their haunting sound with his beautiful writing and Mellotron. When he left the band in 1978, they were never the same. He had a songwriting contest about 15 years ago and critiqued a couple of my songs. A very special moment in my life!

Absolutely. And he had a lot to do with the writing and arranging of songs that were credited to the other band members. It's a shame he didn't stay for their later career but so glad we have those classic albums.
My absolute favorite group from the 60s/70s. Day of Future Passed was the first album I ever purchased.
