Nah, he's still pretty fresh out of the gate. The Huntsman did well, and even if Rush wasn't a commercial success it proved he had good range. He's trying to build his street cred to show he can do more. It's not like Hugh Jackman has always had successful movies either.

Rush did ok at the box office. Made $90 million on a $38 million budget. Good enough for the studio to recoup its investment and then some.

Really? Then why do people act like it's a flop? If it made nearly triple the budget then that is a success. I'm so confused by the logic of the industry sometimes.

It was basically an indie film and never expecting to have huge numbers. Some nay-sayers talk about films that don't make 2-3-400 million are flops, but it's all relative to how much it cost in the first place.

Rush isn't a flop. It didn't make much though. Total budget including marketing/promotion cost is $63 millions, the movie made $88 millions worldwide and 70% of the gross is overseas which got a deeper cut than domestic. But it's a very well received movie.

In case we don't know how the budget works, here's an example. Tomorrowland's listed budget on Box Office Mojo is $190Million. Every film has a promotion budget and they are often almost as much as the production budget. Blackhat is no exception. But most of the box office site doesn't list promotion budget. But you can't see the real picture if you omitted a big part of what releasing a movie costs.

Rush Made $98,230,839 on a $38,000,000 product budget. It did good job at international box office.
