Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, was stabbed by another inmate and seriously injured Friday at a federal prison in Arizona, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.

The attack happened at the Federal Correctional Institution, Tucson, a medium-security prison that has been plagued by security lapses and staffing shortages. The person was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the attack and spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity.

The Bureau of Prisons confirmed that an incarcerated person was assaulted at FCI Tucson at around 12:30 p.m. local time Friday. In a statement, the agency said responding employees contained the incident and performed “life-saving measures” before the inmate, who it did not name, was taken to a hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

reply

He was bleeding because he had drugs in his system, not because of the knife holes.

reply

LOL, good one!

reply

He probably stabbed himself to be removed from the general population.

reply

What is unclear about "...was stabbed by another inmate..."?! ☻

reply

Well, it seems that he was "probably stabbed". No one really has much info on this topic.

Why do you continue saying “probably”?

Either he was or he wasn’t and based on your sources, he was stabbed.

Are you starting to doubt and question the reliability of your sources?

reply

Yes, I doubted them from the beginning because of the weasel words they use. Do you always believe your sources of information?

Inmate charged with attempted murder after stabbing Derek Chauvin 22 times
https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/01/us/inmate-stabbing-derek-chauvin-charged-attempted-murder/index.html

The inmate accused of attacking Derek Chauvin, the former police officer convicted in George Floyd’s killing, stabbed him approximately 22 times with an improvised knife in an attack the Arizona inmate had been contemplating for around a month, according to court documents.

According to the federal complaint, at approximately 12:30 p.m. local time on November 24, Chauvin was in the law library at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson when John Turscak, 52, attacked him, causing serious bodily injury.

“Federal corrections offices immediately responded and deployed OC spray to subdue Turscak,” the criminal complaint added.

Turscak, who has been charged with attempted murder, told the corrections officers he would have killed Chauvin had they not responded so quickly, according to the complaint.

Well, no maybe about it now.

It seems Chauvin is getting better care in prison than Floyd got from Chauvin, Kueng, Lane and Thao in their police vehicle and on the street. Looks like corrections officers did not give Turscak nine minutes to kill Chauvin, instead they responded right away.

Chauvin has a huge target on his back. If he's not put into protective custody he won't make it to his parole date.

reply

Killing him solves a lot of problems! This was a hit.

reply

If you mean it was a planned event, then yes. The man accused of stabbing Chauvin claims he was planning it for a while. If you're suggesting that it was done with the help of prison authorities or by others, then there is no evidence that I know of to support that claim.

If it was a conspiracy, then possibly the attacker would have been supplied with a long and sharper knife.
