American justice has become ridiculous

I have nothing but contempt for Alex Jones. He is an idiot, but $100+ million per family for what some goofball says in the lunatic media ... it's a bit much. Does Jones even have anywhere near that amount of money?

reply

Manipulative psychopaths do not want to be pointed out as being manipulative psychopaths to the public.

reply

Far as I know there is no law against being a manipulative psychopath?
If there were most of the country, maybe most of the world would have
to be in prison or pays fines.

So, Jones, for years claimed that Sandy Hook did not happen.
It is wrong, stupid, and disgusting, but not as effective as Fox News' lies
and misinformation. What was the crime he was charged with? What
are the damages?

They say sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never
hurt me ... except to the tune of a billion dollars.

reply

What you don't seem to understand it, Jones kept claiming for years that the Sandy Hook murders were a lie and that it was all made up. The bottom line is, he knew damn well that it did happen, but he kept pushing and promoting those bull**** lies and conspiracy theories he made up about it anyway. And what happened as a result of that was that some of the families was lost their children at Snady Hook had to deal with constant harassment from the crazy nutcase idiots that watched Jones' show and bought into the bull**** he was perpetuating. One family actually had to move several times because of constantly being harassed, and one father who lost his son was constantly getting threats online claiming that he lied about his son's death. That's the kind of disgusting bull**** these families had to go through because of Jones constantly pushing his damn lies about Sandy Hook.

The truth is, I don't think any of them will ever see a dime from that fckg nutcase---in fact , he's just declared bankruptcy so he won't have to, even though he'll probably regret that on down the line. But the point of him being put on trial is, you can't constantly push a narrative of lies to the point where it actually causes people physical harm, and they get threatened because of it. I don't feel sorry for him because he brought all this BS on himself. I couldn't help but laugh when his lawyer accidently sent some texts that contradicted certain things he'd said at the trial, and got himself busted because of that.

reply

you are right but why mention FOX when MSNBC is 10 times worse

reply

Because I don't believe that MSNBC is worse, I think FOX is worse, and I think everyone knows it.

reply

There was a trial and a Jury came to the conclusion that Jones defamed them and that he needs to pay. The Jury is in a better position to make that judgment than you as they heard the evidence and were instructed on the law.

Jones probably does not have the money. He’ll either file for bankruptcy or be paying them for a really long time.

reply

He will appeal.

A billion dollar penalty for words? That is a bad precedent, even if I really dislike Jones.

reply

Well he did the things he's been convicted of in order to profit from it. So it's rather perverse to come to his aid regarding the penalty he's facing for distributing lies about the victims and their families.

How much per victim do you think he should be fined? What's your calculations? Have you never heard of several counts of the same crime against different victims carrying individual and accumulative penalties?

reply

well , you can put someone in prison for 100 lifetimes and .... its pretty pointless but they do life
if you do the same with the fines , like in this case , and it comes to a billion they just cant pay

reply

They pass sentence based on the crime. Not on the basis of how much time the convicted can do before they die or how much they can pay before they are broke. If he can't pay the entire fine now then he pays what he can. And continues paying if he gets more money in the future. Any assets he has can be liquidated if necessary.

reply

well , in a lot of countries , like mine , the fine is based on your income and savings , roughly.
And prison sentences vary due to the circumstances within the guidelines for a given crime.
In Sweden a speeding fine is a direct calculated proportion of your salary.

And in this case , the actual charges and alleged damage are pretty vague.
how can they possibly put a value on it ?
its almost as if theyve added on mulitiple extra zeroes to the number to make a point of what a nasty evil bastard jones is , whilst conceding the families will never get any money

If they'd set it at 1m per family , instead of 100m perhaps they would get the money.

reply

Which crime did you commit that's comparable with what Jones was convicted of?

I don't know how you can be confident that 1 mill per victim he lied about is all he deserves.

What's the precedent for knowingly spreading lies that the families of victims of a mass murder took part in a hoax school shooting?

Don't you think that's an evil thing to do?

You'd probably get a stiffer sentence for spreading lies about a large corporation's financial performance and prospects.

The families will get money by the way. He can't declare bankruptcy and he cannot alienate his assets to avoid paying.

reply

> How much per victim do you think he should be fined?

I don't really know. I have not been following this. What is the actual criminal charge or the claim of damage, and why? I think this kind of excessive damages puts a chill on free speech at a time when things are really chaotic. What do you think?

reply

He will lose.

reply

It is that high because of all the families in the lawsuit. It will be distributed.

Words have consequences and there was a trial for those consequences.

reply

...and the jury found the killers of Emmett Till not guilty

reply

Also remember that the Sandy Hook families were harassed & threatened by Jones supporters

reply

Are any of those supporters that threatened the Sandy Hook families charged? Did anything that Jones said incite his supporters to violence? I am looking for some rational structure to view this case in, because essentially it is words, but words to a bunch of mobilized idiots. Same with Trump. The Right wing nuts have a social media technology, adapted from earlier dirty tricks to whip up violent idiots. Seems like the violence idiots need to be the focus as well.

reply

You sure are the stupidest troll on MC. Falsely accusing victims is incitement. Psychotic Rage is incitement. DOXing the victims is too.

reply

Agreed Satan.

reply

Exactly. I can't even begin to imagine the personal pain these families have had to endure. I don't think the sentence was harsh enough. He deserves lengthy prison time.

reply

I don't give a rat's patootie for Alex Jones, but this sentencing for the public is not a good sign of anything.
If people are harassing these families - they should pay the price - AND Jones, but not just Jones.
Somehow the message has got to get through to people that to harass people like this is a serious crime.

reply

the thugs doing his bidding could plead stupidity, they have been brainwahed by AJ

AJ deserves 1000x any punishment they do . They are morons , he is manipulator in chief lining his pockets by causing incalcuble pain to shooting victims.

reply

You very clearly do though care about him though......

reply

Obviously, the OP is childless and even more obvious, no woman is dumb enough for the bearing of the OP's children - thank goodness. It is obvious the OP is also still dating Rosie Palm and her five sisters.

reply

So... You're thinking about the OP masturbating?

(I don't normally get along with the OP, but his point here is accurate)

reply

Hell must have frozen over. I agree completely.

reply

> Hell must have frozen over.

Why let the public know how wrong you are on things?

reply

And then you had to go and ruin the moment by being cunt.

Go fuck yourself, robot.

reply

You had bad intent all along. You expect me to laugh at your lame joke but you are too think skinned to take it when it is sent back to you and have to descend to profanity because you are at a loss for words.

reply

well, to an outside observer it looked like You were definitely the dickhead in that exchange , despite your hostile reply being fairly nonsensical.

reply

He's a jerk for saying that, and if he actually believes it he's an idiot. But $100M per family is completely asinine. If the rest of his life is ruined over what he said, it's an egregious perversion of justice.
