Alex Jones told to pay $965m damages to Sandy Hook victims' families

Hope all his assets are seized and he moves to a trailer park! Not that Infowars is worth anything, but the nutrition company may be.

Don't know what's worse:

Paying out millions to hypocritical grief-grifters to appease (supposedly) irreplaceable losses?

Or

'Simpsons' memes?

reply

Sorry, but there is simply no better way of expressing derisive laughter than the classic Nelson gif...

reply

Well, I'm glad you apologised (at least)

reply

Sweet justice!

That's fucked up.

What financial damages were done by Jones exercising his freedom of speech?

It’ll be lowered significantly.

reply

Freedom of speech is overrated, like freedom of religion, which should be immediately stamped out. FUCK religion!

reply

The only people that would think freedom of speech is overrated are people that are afraid of the truth.

reply

No because these days everyone thinks they have the truth and shove it down other peoples throats no matter how much they hurt them, it is not the truth unless it is realized it is the truth by those you share it with. Freedom of speech is overrated when its used as a weapon to oppress others. Only a narcissist thinks they have the truth others need to see even if they dont want to.

reply

Only a narcissistic thinks their view on the truth is an absolute. What is true to one person may not be the truth to another. So much of truth is actually perception.

reply

fascist

reply

agreed

Are you ok with the death threats that Jones's disciples (i.e. customers) made to the victim's families? Do you not think a corporation that knowingly spreads lies and encourages subscribers to accuse, harass and threaten innocent people when they are grieving, from which the corporation knows they will profit, should be at least heavily financially penalised?

He wasn't exercising his freedom of speech.

reply

Freedom of speech has consequences, thats why we got cancel culture to remind us that words can and do lead to action, this is how systemic violence and murder used to start in society, that has an effect on the well being of other more vulnerable humans, especially when it comes to minorities in this world. We still live in the world where mob mentality formulates as a result of beliefs designed to devalue other people's existence, not just beliefs. Jones needs to learn the lesson that with power comes more responsibility. He has been known for dehumanizing others for a long time, he had it coming.

reply

When you say free speech has it's limits, you lose the battle. Allowing limitations on a right makes it subject to the whims of any controlling authority.

The people who sued Jones had the ability to ignore, and to change the channel.

Anyone who knew that what Jones said was a lie had the ability to make sure that on their opinion he was a liar and discredit his statements.

I saw some of the things Jones said, I did not find his story to be credible, the number of street cops involved in anything of this type pretty much prevents any type of event like this being staged.

That does not mean that the MSM did not expand and interject some lies and misstatements of their own into the story to further the anti-gun agenda they so vehemently promote.

I do not remember seeing any video of each of these people rebutting his statements, that does not mean they did not at some time do so, but I saw no organized rebuttal on a daily basis to discredit the statements..

reply

The First Amendment prohibits the government from making any law infringing on freedom of speech. It does not, however, protect people from being sued over defamatory claims.

Here ya go, this should help you out:
