The reason the show was canceled, she was suppose to play jean gray in 2000 x man, but Nikita producers won't let her, so she didn't agree to play Nikita after her contract was up and they made sure she would get a bad rep to work with.
Yup. It was the Jean Grey role and them not letting her out of her contract to do it, is what did it.
Star-Making Role: For Peta Wilson. She was even offered the role of Jean Grey in X-Men, but the producers refused to let her be released from her contract early to participate. Unfortunately, she was blacklisted by Hollywood for refusing to renew her contract, and that saw her star dimming somewhat. She's still working away however
