i read in a magazine in which it said that her mom was diagonized with cancer while she was filming matilda i would like to know if her mom passed away during that time. In some scenes in matilda she looked tired and had dark circles under her eyes? it might explain the reason why she looked sad in the movie.

shareI don't know if it was during or slightly after, but it may well have been during. I know it was before the movie was released in theaters. Having just watched it today myself, I think I did notice the 'sadness' too, but that could have been equally from knowing her mom had cancer. I don't know if a girl her age would have continued filming if her mother had died in the middle of it.

I know her mother died when she was very young, but I didn't know it happened while filming that movie. That's very sad. I have read that when Mara is asked about her mother, she very rarely talks about it. I can't even imagine...... poor girl :(
