America already became extremely fascist in the early 1900s because of the progressives when central planning was very popular and seen as a path to utopia. Europe picked up on it from America and you had groups like the Fabians who persisted in stealth after it fell out of favor.

Ironically, that double digit stagflation when Reagan entered office was a direct consequence of Nixon's ridiculous protectionist tariffs. Guess who's making that same mistake now?
