is 300 his only good comicbook movie
I liked some of Watchmen but I don't think comicbook movies is his genre

shareNo, I genuinely enjoyed Man of Steel and would rather have a followup for that by now.
shareWatchmen was okay. I think it missed a lot of the magic of the comic, though.
With 300 and Watchmen, frankly, I think what worked came from those comics. Miller's comic book could have been a storyboard for much of the film. What did Snyder do for these movies, really? I don't think he's much of a director. His design work is crazy good. The aesthetics, style, music - everything - about Sucker Punch are awesome. But what's he doing to serve the story?
I think it was Nerdwriter who did a video about Snyder and highlighted that he does good moments, but can't get the story flow/ big picture working. I tend to agree.
300 only worked because it's not that complicated. Watchmen wound up missing the nuance and depth of the original because Snyder didn't have a grasp of the big picture.
Depends on how badass the Spartans were in the comics. I like to think the over the top line delivery "In a good way" was Snyder's direction.
shareI only read it once, and that a while ago, but I seem to recall them being pretty badass.
It's not the sort of thing that calls for subtlety. Is Frank Miller ever? Maybe Batman: Year One...
I agree, Watchmen was decent. The problem is Hack Synder's films get progressively worse. His Dawn of the Dead remake was by far his best movie, and its downhill from there.
shareI haven't seen his Dawn of the Dead, but generally, yeah. Although, I might prefer Sucker Punch to Legend of the Guardians.
He's got a great eye, he does great work with effects and soundtracks and aesthetics, but he just doesn't seem to be able to elevate material the way a great director does.
Personally, I don't think he's awful, I just think he'd be better suited as a co-director, a producer, or a designer where his artistic visions could shine without leaving the plot and characters behind.
I actually think his comic book film output is as good as any other director out there.
Man of Steel - 10/10
Zack Snyder's Justice League - 10/10
Watchmen - 9/10
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition - 8/10
300 - 7/10
I think Watchmen was ok, it failed in many aspects but was original and daring and interesting.
300 is obviously better.
His zombie flick is good.
Everything else is crap.
WATCHMEN IS GREAT,DAWN OF THE DEAD IS GREAT,THE ACTUAL FIGHT BETWEEN BATMAN AND SUPERMAN IS GREAT,300 IS PRETTY GOOD...EVERYTHING ELSE IS A GRABBAG OF SHIT AND MEDIOCRITY.
sharei haven't seen watchmen in ages, so i'm gonna pass on commenting on that. i just don't remember it well enough.
i think man of steel is about 80% of the way to being a truly great movie. it loses me (like it loses a lot of people) in the last 30-40 minutes when it devolves into an endless crash/bang/smash bore. but before that? pretty great! i have no affection for the character (i was a marvel kid & still am a middle-aged fanboy), but i got swept up in it, even moved a couple of times.
Loved Watchmen. More than 300.
shareI would probably say yes. But i think his best movie was Dawn of the Dead. And even then it wasn't better than the original.
