no one loves horror movies more than him except rob zombie

and that is one of the many reasons why i love eli roth.

reply

He's one of the worst horror directors of all time. His movies are trash.

reply

You gonna elaborate on that, boyo?

Can't say I've seen all of Roth's films, but those I have seen are decent enough (Hostel being one the most iconic grindhouse films of the 2000's), and a refreshing change from some of the trends which has plagued modern horror films - including endless inferior sequels/reboots, over reliance of jump scares and exploitation of the found footage genre.

reply

CABIN FEVER,HOSTEL,HOSTEL 2,KNOCK KNOCK,THE GREEN INFERNO...NONE OF THESE ARE PERFECT OR TOPTIER FAVORITES OF MINE...BUT THEY ARE ALL STRONG,ENTERTAINING HORROR SAMPLINGS...I MEAN SHIT...MY DAUGHTER LOVES THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS...THE GUY CAN DIRECT.

reply

Nah. It's not even worth dissecting him as a director.

reply

HE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE...CLEARLY NOT FOR YOU...SOME OF US ENJOY HIS DARK,SILLY,GRIMY STYLE.

reply

Your loss

reply

did you watch his show eli roths' history of horror? if you did then you'd know this guy is an encyclopedia when it comes to horror movies. he knows about every important horror movie. he knows everything there is to know about the history of horror films.

i give him a lot of credit for introducing me to the last american virgin about 15 years ago. i had never heard of this film before he mentioned it in an interview that was online. it's the best sex comedy ever made.

reply

LMAO

reply

"did you watch his show eli roths' history of horror?"

No I haven't, but thanks for the shout. About to now.

Forget these fools,

Cabin Fever and Hostel 1 & 2 are as much part of the horror legacy than any Friday the 13th movie, Halloween sequel, Saw,
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, Final Destination, Profondo Rosso, Dawn of the Dead, It Follows, I know What You Did Last Summer, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Howling, Evil Dead, Fright Night, Conjuring, Demoni 1 & 2, The Blob, Re-Animator, Dance of the Vampires, Hellraiser, Lost Boys, Candyman, Phantasm, Hereditary etc etc etc

Fits right in to the list. Everybody calm down now.

reply

exploitation? don't you mean over used?

reply

Exploitation is the act of taking advantage of someone/something in order to profit, so it fits the context.

reply

Haven't seen enough from either director but I hated the remake of Halloween for what it did with Michael Myers. Hostel was quite entertaining for what it was, and I think it's maybe rated a little too harshly on IMDB. On that basis I'd rate Roth above Zombie but both would be quite low down when it comes to the great horror directors.

reply

what horror directors of nowadays do you like? alexandra aje, who directed haute tension, the hills have eyes remake, the the last house on the left remake, and piranha(2010)?

reply

It's rated a 5.9 on IMDB, that's not really "harsh" imo.

reply

If only he could make more than one decent one...

reply

He's made some interesting films.

reply

Then you should love me too, because I love horror movies so much, but without posturing like him.

reply

Rob Zombie's last few movies have been shit which is a shame because House of 1000 Corpses is an all time great horror movie. The Devil's Rejects and Halloween were good too.

It's great to see Eli Roth having some success again after he broke out in the early-mid 00's. If only Rob Zombie could return to form and get a second wind.

Two certified G's.
