It was a direct quote Tom Bower got from trusted sources. And regardless of what kingy wants, the princes want nothing to do with each other, and most of the family would prefer Meghan didn't exist.

She told Meghan that back before the wedding, not in later times. It was because that disgusting brat was being cruel and claiming there were eggs in the vegan food she demanded be served at the wedding reception. She would taste the food, pretend she could taste egg in it, and would yell at the cooks for "doing it wrong." The Queen was basically telling her to shut up.
