Where do you rank him among rock frontman?
Second only to Ozzy.
shareI rank him middle of the pack. To me a frontman has to have a dynamic personality and aura on stage. Plant rarely had any of that.
As a lead singer, he’s up there, but still no where near my top.
I am not saying I don’t like him or LZ, I do like them, but as a guy that once had nearly 7,000 vinyl albums and have watched tons of video, Plant was, again, middle of the pack in my definition of frontman.
Agree with this.
shareTo me, you don't need a great voice (but it needs to be passable). I think a great frontman has a distinguishable look. They need to make it look easy but be engaged. They need to be in a great band. They can't have their presence overshadowed by another member. That's why I pick Ozzy.
shareSecond to Freddie Mercury
shareOzzy definitely first, then Mick Jagger and Diamond Dave. Plant never really impressed me as a frontman but Zepplin's songs were excellent.

shareHe's nothing ... just a singer. For frontmen, the top of rock is Mick Jagger. Plant can barely get two consecutive words out together. Used to be a great singer, but Led Zeppelin is old. They've done nothing in decades. Why is this guy a thing?
shareQuite low, actually. Big Zepp fan, but I don't think he ever replicated his studio vocals on any of the live recordings i've ever heard, and he mostly just planted his feet down and struck a pose while singing. He had fairly good banter with the audience between songs. He got the job done. But he wasn't no Roger Daltery.
shareTo me it wasn't about vocals. I mean, I choose Ozzy first. But what I like is the mental image of him that sticks in my mind. I like his chill attitude. Daltrey is definitely the better singer.
