Will he ever play a funny guy?

I have to say that it annoys me to only see him in sad, dramatic and psychopathic roles. Why is he typecasting himself so much? Even if his movies have some funny aspects, they are still kinda depressing.

I think that this is what I would call 'pretty boy syndrome'. Just like DiCaprio or other beautiful androgynous, baby-faced looking boys or men, he seems to be scared to be liked in his roles because that would mean that he's not being taken seriously as an actor. He thinks that playing murderers, psychopaths and hobos gives him credibility and will prevent him from being a movie heartthrob that girls love to watch. It seems like he only wants a certain kind of audience to watch him so that he will never have to fear appearing in a teeny bopper mag ever again.

The problem is, I feel like I see him in the same role over and over again.

He was good in Delirious, and that's a comedy where he doesn't play a murderer. You should also see him in Silk and The Dreamers - those weren't comedies, but they were romantic roles.

As far as seeing him in the same role, I'll agree that they usually are similar as far as their content. However, he's never the same character. He always plays each guy differently. I honestly think he's one of the best chameleons that I've seen...in his age group.

Yes, I saw all those movies you're mentioning. Still, 'Delirious' is more tragic-comical than really laughing out/knee-slapping funny. 'The Dreamers' was hot but not funny and 'Silk' was a snoozefest; neither funny nor good, at all. The movies in which he plays deranged people just overshadow the roles he had in which he plays 'normal' ones.

I just think that it would be time to do something different, like playing in a really good comedy for once. No Mob, no homelessness, no psychological problems, no gangsters, no dead people... Just an 'ideal world' comedy.

You think so? I thought it was the first genuine comedy that I've seen with Pitt in it.

I agree. I'm not much of a fan of either one of those movies, but if I had to chose it would be 'The Dreamers'.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in a comedy or 2 - I'm not much of a fan of situational comedies, though. I prefer dark and gritty dramas; most comedies nowadays are not really funny to me nor entertaining.

Anyway, most actors usually work in a niche, so it's not unusual to see a performer stick to 1 genre. I don't think it would hurt for Michael to have a little diversity in his filmography. He certainly does have good comedic timing, which you can see in 'Delirious' and 'Rob the Mob.'

I wouldn't be disappointed if all he did from here on out were dramas. That genre usually has better stories and require more range in acting.

I cannot really see him playing a funny role as in a character that is intending to be funny. He would be one of those characters that are neurotic and quirky and come off as funny to those around him. It seems that a lot of actors that are good at playing psychos and or people who are different are good at playing the neurotic guy. He is good at playing psychos that is for sure. Years ago he would have been perfect for the role of the Jeffrey Dahmer movie. He plays that creepy quiet guy well which was how the character was.

The thing is that, at least for me, it makes him really boring and forseeable as an actor. 'Oh, and there's Michael Pitt. Playing the psycho serial killer. Again!' Yawn. If you can't be diverse, you're not a good actor. If you can't make people believe you to be that funny, innocent guy who, for a change, is not hiding a butcher knife behind his back, then you're not an actor to begin with.
I read the synopses for his forthcoming movies and I just thought, 'Uhm, haven't I seen him in something like this before?'
Like I said; it get's really boring.

I watched the Dawson's Creek episodes with him in it the other day and, believe it or not, somehow I was always expecting him to get out the axe or something. That's how conditioned as a viewer I am to see him play that weirdo creepy guy. On the other hand, it was refreshing to see him just playing a normal kid.

I don't know much about him, but he seems to have a troubled past and maybe he's drawing from that past to play those psychologically disturbed characters, but a good actor can also portray someone to which character traits or social background they don't have a personal connection to.

They also say that Angelina Jolie is only good in playing the disturbed person because she's had those kinds of experiences herself. Many say that she's failed in portraying other kinds of characters.
Maybe, the same can be said about Michael?

There was a movie I found called Rhinocerous Eyes where I want to say he did not play a psycho but the character was still psychologically messed up. I think he was supposed to be schizophrenic or split personality and maybe sort of retarded. There was actually no killing but that movie had a creepy feel to it. Getting back to the psycho murderer thing I could see him as Jack Torrance if they remade The Shining(although apparently there was a tv mini series back in the nineties).

That movie made me really angry. I watched it online without actually knowing what it was about and at first I thought it was a sweet romantic movie and then it got pretty weird with him having those psychotic episodes and doing the you-know-what (don't wanna spoil it for others) at the end of the movie.
You know, I watched it the first minutes and thought 'Oh, I need to get out my popcorn and candy. Finally a movie with him where I don't want to puke out what I just ate' and BAAAAM!!, same sh** as always.

Well, whatever. I don't think that he cares about what I think of his role choices, but I know as a viewer that I won't bother watching his new projects.

I actually like that one. That robot/doll thing that was in his mind as his alter ego. When it appeared to grow to life size at the end and take over I was not sure if that was supposed to be bad or good. It was just a weird movie and I usually like things that make you go "what the f$$$".
