My, how times have changed

I absolutely love the PlutoTV app. It's totally free and provides a TON of content. TV shows, movies, documentaries, American Gladiators, reality crap - it's got it all!

I caught parts of The Bird Cage for the first time in years. I have to check it out, eventually. Several things caught my attention.

"You're not a woman."

"They just care if you're a fag."
"Act like a man."

"Walk like John Wayne."

I was dying because first of all, it's funny. Additionally, I'm trying to imagine all the offended teen, 20, and early 30 somethings who would clutch their invisible pearls over this. I wonder if since it's airing on Pluto right now, someone will start to tweet about needing to cancel this movie? Pussies.

This relate to Ellen Page?

reply

Ellen is trans. Robin William's character is making fun of Nathan Lane's because he thinks he's a woman. He's not. WE all know this. He would not be allowed to make this joke today because that would be "transphobic" or something. Besides the movie being very funny, it's also telling how much society has changed.

is the app up and running yet, it keeps telling me to wait and see...

I downloaded Pluto about 4 months ago.

The app runs fine on my mobile phone, but (retro TV shows apart) the movies can be very repetitious (although there's some great Genre classics on there...Bud Spencer/Terence Hill movies, Starcrash, Capricorn One...plus an 'Asylum Movies' channel) But be warned, the movies are usually broken up with ad breaks every 15-20 minutes.

But hey, it's 100% free (with no sign-ups) and the quality is excellent. Think of it as a much more professional version of the (once great) 'Filmon' app (from around 6-7 years ago) before they got greedy and started charging for pretty much every channel.

yes, they changed for the better. transphobic things are rightfully frowned upon these days
