She always seemed so young. She was twenty-nine or thirty in "The Poseidon Adventure", convincingly playing a teenager.

reply

I agree - I always assumed she was younger than she was when I watched The Poseidon Adventure as a kid.

Years later I saw Bunny Lake is Missing from 1965 in which she played a character somewhat close to her own age (early 20s). She certainly did not seem older than this seven years later in Poseidon.

reply

She was a youthful blonde. And she plays her part well in 'Bunny Lake Is Missing.' I reckon that was her best. RIP.

reply

Maybe I'm not remembering well, but I remember her as being part of a long line of delightfully ditzy blondes. Pretty, petite, with great comic timing. I'm sure she was more than than that, but when I think of her I think of Teri Garr and Legally Blonde and Judy Holliday and Jean Arthur. So pretty and so vulnerable and so sweet.

reply

Snepts...while she may have had a role like that, I cannot recall any that were ditzy. Certainly not a trait in her roles. I could be wrong though...so very long ago.

reply

Fair enough. Ditzy has a certain meaning and maybe it's the wrong word here. But I remember whenever Carol Lynley's name or face appeared on TV I would perk up and pay extra attention. She was so pretty and sweet.

reply

Ditsy, to me, is like the character Suzanne Somers played in Three’s Company.

reply

Sure. I think I used that word because she's blond and had a soft voice and looked like she could be a bit naive. I remember having a minor crush when I was younger and hadn't thought about her much in a very long time. I'd say anybody who was intimate with her was a very lucky person.

reply

pre-Facebook days, I was in a fairly large online group that was discussing childhood/teen celebrity crushes. I was late to the discussion, so I created this page...

RIP. Poseidon Adventure was a great ‘70s classic and she was lovely in it.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Lynely some 12 years ago. She was very sweet. She was also a very talented actor.
She did superb work on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour." Both episodes are superb,
especially 1957's "The Young One.'

So sorry to hear that. I thought she was younger.

reply

She was great in "The Poseidon Adventure." Check her out in the more obscure "The Shuttered Room" (1967); she's delectable.

A very lovely actress. I enjoyed her role as Carl Kolchak's girlfriend in the original Night Stalker TV movie.

She was in one of my favorite Big Valley episodes. She played Dilly Shanks in the serio-comic episode "Hell Hath no Fury". She was an outlaw in love with Heath who was willing to change her ways if he married her. When he spurned her advances, she decided to get even!

reply

I thought her role in "The Night Stalker" was too limited, but I'll be on the lookout for that Big Valley episode.

reply

That Big Valley episode isn't considered one of the best. But I enjoy it. It's become one of my favorites. There is one scene where Miss Lynley takes a bath that probably has most men under 90 panting.

For me, as a female, I preferred the scene where Heath is hard at work repairing a fence without his shirt!

She didn't have a big role in The Night Stalker, but I thought she was a good match for Carl. Too bad the cops ran her out of town.

reply

I'm glad Carol was in "The Night Stalker" -- she looked great, as usual -- I just wish she had a bigger part.

Funny, because I just happened to catch the tail end of that episode only recently. I don’t think that I even realized that it was Carol Lynley. If you like this episode pj, then you might like an episode of The Virginian that she starred in, along side Shirley Knight. They played sisters. It was titled “The Man From The Sea”. I seem to recall that it was a strange episode, in that Ms Lynley wished to commit homicide on her sister, and the sister seemed to be surprisingly understanding about the whole thing 😀

reply

I'll have to look for that Virginian episode. I recently started watching that show. it's pretty good.

There's a western line-up in the morning. It's The Big Valley, The High Chaparral and The Virginian. I usually have that channel on during my day off.

RIP Carol...I remember she was introduced by Disney in the 195 8 film Tonka (with the long deceased Sal Mineo,no less!)
