He just can't act

I want to like Michael B, but the dude just can't act. His performances in Creed and Black Panther are on the level of Star Wars I, II, and III. He comes off as a heavily sedated angry gansta.

Going by his profile he's been landing roles since '99. Damn, if homeboy can't get any good in 20 years it's time to retire or find another career. He seems like a nice guy, but it's just really cringeworthy trying to watch him in roles where he's clearly in over his head.

I totally disagree. I thought he was great in Creed and Black Panther.

You must be quite a fan of The Phantom Menace. You probably have a subscription to the Hayden Christensen school of dramatic arts.

Even Ice Cube could've done a better job than this cardboard cutout, and he's a one dimensional actor!

reply

Ice Cube is at least good at his shtick. Michael B just has no personality or charisma whatsoever.

I thought he was superb in Fruitvale Station. He was merely serviceable in Creed and Black Panther but they are not exactly the type of roles that require much range.

He is a charismatic screen presence and it will be interesting to see where his career goes. Hopefully he doesn't turn his back on smaller, character driven films.

He's a competent actor, he just lacks any sort of memorable screen presence or personality. He was good in Fruitvale Station as that's a very quiet, understated sorta film. It's when he has to turn on the charm and be a movie star in films like Creed and Black Panther that his limitations start to show (most notably when he's standing next to a screen legend like Sylvester Stallone). I think he has potential as a dramatic actor, but as a Hollywood leading man type, he just doesn't cut it.

I agree. I used to watch "Parenthood" on NBC back in in 2012 or whenever. It was the first time I saw him. He was so terrible, always looked uncomfortable as if he was going to struggle with his lines. And he did.

But I thought the same of Seth Rogen when he was on "Freaks and Geeks" also on NBC in 1999.

He has to have the right role. I thought he was great in Friday Night Lights.

reply

Agree he is absolute cringe.
