Said he quit acting after all the 'Ninja' movies appearing on his resume
I think Richard Harrison is one of the most candid and outspoken actors about his career and the film business in general. He's a real breath of fresh air in interviews as he has no problem spilling the beans on who was good or terrible to work with including on all these various foreign B-movies he participated in.
In a few interviews he has made it clear that the reason he quit acting was because Godfrey Ho hired him to shoot a few scenes for a Ninja movie, and then Ho turned around and edited Harrison's footage into at least a dozen movies. I can understand why he'd be upset, especially as it's pretty tricky to have any legal recourse when you're dealing with Hong Kong contracts and filmmakers.
Strangely enough, those terrible films have actually withstood the test of time far better than most of Harrison's other films, which is a bit ironic and potentially upsetting to him. I think it's far enough in the rear view mirror that it can't to be too terribly upsetting to him, but I have yet to see an interview where he really goes deep into the subject and why it happened the way it did. To my recollection, he simply said that he did the Ninja movies as a "favor" to Ho who was a crewmember on a couple of Harrison's earlier Shaw Brothers movies. Harrison practically never said "no" to a film, except of course legendarily to the role in FISTFUL OF DOLLARS that made Clint Eastwood into a movie star. Perhaps DOLLARS taught him to be less selective, and he got a lot of work, but it eventually resulted in the end of his career. Ironic indeed. It would actually make for a decent bio-pic.
