accent

I've only seen her in Wonderfalls, which started not long ago in the UK. (Needless to say, it's brilliant and the exec at Fox who decided to can it should have various internal organs Forman grilled and fed to him.) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone who's seen her in anything else or seen her being interviewed could shed any light on the accent. She is French-Canadian, yes? Heavy accent? First language French?

Your are right Pete. First language French.

French canadian , i've been seing her on TV for as long as I can remember (i'll turn 20 soon). She has no accent in french at all , she just worked really hard to get rid of any possible accent in english =)

In the movie "Out Cold" she had an accent; however, since that's the only thing besides "Wonderfalls" that I've seen her in, I can't really compare. Sorry *sweatdrop*

She spoke at the premiere to 'These Girls' and there was no noticeable accent. Maybe she sheds the accent when talking to an English-speaking audience?

reply

She has a French-Canadian accent. It says so here at IMDB and at various other places. For Wonderfalls, she had to take training to get a more American-sounding accent. So she probably just changes it for American films, and keeps her accent (or lessens it a bit) for Canadian films.

fox cancel a good show? never heard of such a thing!

reality: fox has a horrible track record of cancelling great shows, namely Wonderfalls, Firefly, and "The Tick". Those are just the recent ones.

She did Heart: The Marilyn Bell Story a couple of years before she did Wonderfalls, and there's no French accent there. (Except when she's in the water and a bit out of breath, you can detect just a little different stress on the words at the end of her sentences.) I heard her say in an interview that she went to an English speaking elementary school.

I've seen her in English speaking roles both with and without the French accent and she seems comfortable either way. Having a heavy Southern Appalachian accent myself I know that I can speak with it or without it depending on the audience which I'm addressing. It's probably the same thing with any language in which you're fluent if you practice a neutral accent.

She is French-Canadian. It says so on here, you can tell in Edge of Madness and I read that she took lessons for her english speaking roles. Of course she is naturally going to lose her accent over time when she has to speak English for the majority of her roles. And lastly, being a Canadian and having heard many French-Canadians speak before, the accents match. Hope that helps ^_^
