Viola is a fine actress and a worthy contender and probably would've won had it been any other year but Meryl's performance as Maggie Thatch was outstanding. She completely became the Iron Lady. From her mannerisms, to the way she spoke, to the 2 different dialects she adopted, it was a complete embodiment. Viola's performance was great and her acting was great however I think awards should go to those who go above just great acting. Awards should be decided on the amount of effort people go to, to completely become their characters. Such as Charlize Theron in Monster who completely became a different person. Or Natalie Portman in the Black Swan who trained in ballet for almost a year to really authenticate the role. I think when you're up against those sort of actors who have put that much effort and training and research into their characters, those who just acted really well don't have much hope. Viola will win one day and we should remember that being nominated at all is just as good as winning.
Homer, you're dumb as a mule and twice as ugly. If a strange man offers you a ride, I say take it!
