Just Announced: Giving up Superman

According to Comicbook.com, Henry Cavill has decided to step down as Superman. Instead WB is going to concentrate on the new Supergirl movies.

One Word: Bond?

reply

You think they would give him a chance after doing Man from Uncle?

reply

Two words: The Witcher.

reply

So, DC has lost two of their main guys. I don't think this universe is moving forward now.

reply

Sorry. Who's the second?

reply

That would be Affleck. Assuming he's gone, of course.

reply

I hope he isn't. Not YET...

reply

Me too. I would like to see him in a solo movie, before making a final judgement on his turn as the character. Besides, I don't think there are many actors out there who can act and that suit Batman, besides Christian Bale, Ben Affleck and Jake Gyllenhaal.

reply

I really wish they'd left Affleck alone to do the solo Batman movie. It seems like the wond got knocked out of his sails after trouble with all that. I just feel frustrated that there's the perfect Batman and the rest isn't living up to him.

But if Affleck decides he wants out...OH MY GOD CAN WE PLEASE HAVE JAKE GYLLENHAAL? I'd settle down my inner riot immediately if that happened.

XD. If Bale won't come back and Keaton is too old now, then I would like to see Jake have a go at the character the most.

I read an article, could have been a few years old now, that Jake Gyllenhaal said he's LOVE to be Batman. (yeah, it was after Bale left and before Affleck inherited the cowl).

reply

Yeah, I read that too. It's very likely that he will be the next Batman.

reply

OH. My. GOOOOD OMG OMG OMGOMGOMGKJHDSHASJDHGADSHGA!!!

*cat explodes*

reply

lol

reply

I strongly disliked Bale as Batman. They'll go with someone younger anyway.

reply

Who can blame him for wanting out? Warner has handled the DCEU so badly. Man of Steel and Wonder Woman were fine, but the rest was pretty much terrible. Maybe this will teach a lesson to Warner to not take things for granted.

reply

Good points.

reply

WB/DC fucking sucks so he's probably right to leave.

reply

IMO Henry Cavill was one of the few things DCEU got right. Now he's gone surely it's downhill from here. Affleck next?

reply

Agreed

reply

Okay by me! He brought nothing to the role of Superman but an air of unhappiness, but who wouldn't look unhappy after they'd had a look at the scripts he's been given.

So I blame the writers for his failure to be a good Superman much more than Cavill himself, but it's not like Cavill brought anything to the role except his looks.

reply

Agree completely

WB is apparently stalling future Soyperman projects to make way for more female-centric characters, another source says Michael B Jordan is in the line-up for Cavill's replacement. Wouldn't be surprised if this was true.

They should talk to Marvel before they consider doing that to see how that worked out last time.

reply

Did he leave or did he get pushed out?

He made a really good Superman. I think he might be getting some blame by the studio for disappointments like Batman Vs. Superman.

reply

Don't know. The WB statement sounds like backpedaling. Why I don't know.

reply

I think it's a case of they're not going out of their way to hang on to him. If they've already made plans for Ben being gone, it just makes sense to get a new Superman too. A fresh slate is way less awkward than swapping out one actor.

I don't think they have immediate plans to follow up Justice League or move forward with a Man of Steel sequel anyhow. Probably best for everybody involved to just go their separate ways.

It's a real shame we never got Man of Steel 2 cause the first one really was kind of half the story of Superman becoming Superman.
