Harvey to produce faith-based film written by and starring Kirk Cameron

Weinstein continues to show devotion to his newfound Christian faith. Weinstein will help independently finance and produce a new Christian-oriented movie written by and starring former teen heartthrob and now born again televangelist Kirk Cameron called "That Old Rugged Cross". It's about a middle-aged successful businessman who has everything any man would want--a beautiful wife, three lovely children, two luxurious homes and a condo in Maui, and an honored place in his church and his community. Suddenly disaster strikes and the man finds himself alone. Says Kirk Cameron "I basically wanted to have it like a Job type thing and have this guy lose everything. It's about how even in those dark moments, the light of Jesus can shine." Harvey Weinstein is drumming up support among those longtime friends who haven't abandoned him. Says Weinstein "I have wanted to work with Kirk Cameron since he was on "Growing Pains" and have always regarded him as one of the premier actors of his generation. When he showed me the script I was like WOW! I couldn't believe it! I felt like St Paul when he saw that blinding light on the road to Damascus." Shooting is scheduled to commence on May 18th in Vancouver.
