A song for Natasha

I was moved to write a song about Natasha's situation. The lyrics are below. I'll try and set up a link to a free download of the song within the next 48 hours. Feel free to repost this on other boards provided you include the copyright info.
I've never met Natasha or, as far as I know, anyone associated with her. I just know her from her movie roles and things written about her.
I can't claim that this song is accurate or insightful - it's just how I see things from a long way away.
I hope and pray that the last verse turns out to be prophetic.

For Natasha by Ivan McKeon

Natasha you lie in your hospital bed
The vultures of virtue circle over you head
And they're talking about you like your already dead
Like they can't wait to cast you aside
Another wild child washed out with the tide.

The obituaries are ready to roll
They'll dissect your life, your body and soul
Swallow you up and then spit you out whole
With their righteous, resigned indignation
As a symbol of youth degradation

Like carrion crows they wait for you to die
Then they'll feast on warmed-over American Pie
And some crocodile tears they'll squeeze out if they try
And they'll talk about talent that's wasted
But they don't know the poison you tasted

Well you lost your apartment, you lost your respect,
Seems you lost your direction in search of a fix
And there's no movie magic to bring you special effects
No talk-shows, no laughter, no glamour
Only illness, addiction and squalor

Well it seems that your friends were the fair-weather kind
Did you push them away with your drug-addled mind?
Or did they all desert you? All gone like the wind
When you couldn't come up with the cash
Did they leave outside with the trash?

The agents, the managers, your co-stars, your chums
With a silence so deafening it pierces my 'drums
All rush to support you - no I don't see them come
They're ashamed to be seen at your side
Singing "There but for fortune go I"

Natasha get up from you hospital bed
Make the gossips eat up every word that they've said
There are new friends a-waiting, a new way ahead
There's a future out there to be tried
If you stand up and face it with pride

Natasha you lie in your hospital bed
With the vultures of virtue circling over your head
Don't be their fodder you can eat them instead
You must've seen hell through you eyes
Natasha you must realize
From the depths it's now time to arise
Now it's time to recapture the prize

Hi sugaree2003

A nice song. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels for Natasha. I haven't read or heard a word from any of her Hollywood "pals" since the news broke. I can't believe that not one of them has found the opportunity to publicly wish her well. Maybe they are afraid that if her story gets spread around it will hit the sales of the "American Pie" DVDs - ok so I'm a cynic!

Why don't you send your song to her too. Let her know there are people out here willing to fight her corner.

btw What's the name of your band so I can look out for them?

Thank you foxxylove1313 for your comments. I'm a (strictly small-time) British folk singer. I've written quite a few songs but I don't think any of them burned in my heart so much as this one. I'm in the very slow process of setting up a website and recording somne of my stuff.

You can download an mp3 of "For Natasha" (bandwidth permitting)free for non-commercial use at:

I'm going to send a copy to Natasha though I don't know if will get to her. I know she in Beth Isreal Medical Center but I don't know which of their locations she is at so I'll just have to guess.

I just got my letter back stamped Return to Sender. There is a written comment saying "discharged" but I don't know when that happened. I posted the letter with a CD of the song back on October 3rd but I've no idea how long it takes for mail to get to New York from the UK.

I don't know if anyone else's cards or letters of support ever got through to her.

She maybe knows about the song anyway as I'm sure someone is keeping tabs on this message board and others in case anything libelous is posted.
