I do not remember him getting that much hype before his death. He got some hype after ten things but i think the fact patriot ,a knights ,for feather and the order where not hits made it die down. He was in spotlight again after brokeback but he picked some unforgettable stuff so he was forgotten again. He got more hype after dakr knight and his death. He would been offer better roles after dark knight. No offense to his career he had a ood but in terms of hits he had only 2 brokeback and dark knight the just of other films range from modest hits ,decent business or flops.

the dark knight would have still been a big hit but not the billion dollar hit it became. ledger's death definitely contributed to the hype surrounding the film. this was 8 yrs ago....comic book movies werent THAT big back then. just look at the numbers of any comic book film from prior to 2008 and they were in the 200-400 million range; batman begins, superman returns, x-men series, fantastic 4, daredevil, hulk, ghost rider etc. really only the spider-man series was ever above 500 million worldwide.

the dark knight was the first one to cross 1 billion, but had it not been for heath ledger dying i think the dark knight would probably have grossed only about half as much.
