always been below my radar

don't know his music at all.

Well I'll see if I can rectify that situation, hownos.

I've been a fan of Tom Waits ever since he released his fourth album, Small Change, back in 1976.
That being said, I believe that Blue Valentine is his best album.

I also love some of his sayings, such as, "There ain't no Devil, there's just God when he's drunk."
Obviously, Waits did have a pretty severe drinking problem.

Anyway, here's eighteen tracks that I burned onto a cd some time ago. I think that it's a pretty good sampling of his work.

Oh yeah, I guess I should also mention that in addition to his music, Waits has acted in something like 34 films.

It speaks volumes for Waits' work that you can list eighteen great songs and I still feel the need to come in and say that God's Away on Business, The House Where Nobody Lives, and Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis are great, too...

reply

I will have a listen to some of these.

An easy way to start is, if you have a copy of The Eagles third album On The Border, the song "Ol' 55" is on there, with typical glorious Eagles harmonies. It's a Frey lead vocal with Henley singing part of the chorus solo.

reply

EWW...I DONT WANT TO HEAR ANYBODY ELSE DO OL'55.

reply

Try:

Tango Til Theyre Sore
Black Wings
Telephone Call From Istanbul

or a dozen others.

Closing time is a good album before he became the โ€œpersonaโ€. Mule variations is a good one for after. Then you can dive in after that

MR WAITS SITS PROUDLY IN MY TOP TEN ARTISTS ALL TIME...WHAT A FANTASTIC WRITER/PERFORMER..

reply

He's awful!

reply

THATS WHAT SHE SAID

reply

Good lord, why didn't you tell us that 30 years ago?

reply

I did. I guess you didn't hear me because your ears will still bleeding after hearing one of his songs.๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

reply

you have never even heard of this guy.

reply

Why do you constantly make up stuff about me???๐Ÿ˜

Tom Traubert's Blues is probably the worst song I've ever heard in my life. Like nails on a chalkboard. Not impressed with him as an actor either (I'm actually watching him right now in Bram Stoker's Dracula. I guess he did a more convincing job than Keanu, but pretty much everyone did). And all-in-all just an annoying guy.

reply

you surprised me. he played renfield - i forgot

reply

But you already know I have an eclectic taste, I'll give anything a try!

Keanu is easily the worst performer in that movie.๐Ÿ˜‘

reply

His voice is worse than Dylan's which is why I can't get into is music

reply

High five, Mitch!โœ‹

Bob Dylan songs are okay when sung by anybody except for Bob Dylan.

reply

Some of my favorite songs are Dylan covers.

"Hey, Mr. Tambourine man, play a song for me!
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you!"

The Byrds. ๐Ÿ‘
