I never understood why Robert Shaw became a star. I think he was a character actor who became a minor leading man and then got lucky. I suspect if he'd lived longer we'd have seen a moderately quick return to character acting.

Jaws was a star making vehicle. Shaw... Scheider... Dreyfuss.

The Sting was also a massive hit, and The Taking of Pelham 123 was also a big hit the following year. He was on a roll. Jaws wascl the icing on the cake followed by The Deep.
