That's karma Roseanne

Roseanne can go to hell. I feel bad for her co-stars and crewmembers.

reply

I'm losing sympathy for Goodman and Metcalf who have remained silent.

reply

I'd be inclined to cut them some slack. If you know someone really well, you can contact them directly and tell them how disappointed you are in their behavior. The rest of the world is already telling her what a jerk she is. Nothing is really added by having Goodman and Metcalf pile on.

reply

Except they need to make sure their silence is not taken by their audiences as complicity

reply

Yes, I don't take Goodman and Metcalf's silence as complicity any more than I took the Cosby Show's former child actors' silence as complicity. These actors are suffering for something in which they had no part. Their own pain is pretty real and raw. It's not as if they are getting up and defending her.

reply

See, I see it differently. Cosby (as far as I know) did not drug and rape women in front of those actors (God I hope not). So they could still stay silent or even defend him because their were accusations but no first hand knowledge. Roseanne put her racism right there on front street for everyone to see.

I think what it is is that Goodman and Metcalf know that if they say ANYTHING they will become a target of one or both "sides".

Look at how quickly social media can tear a person and their entire career down *snap* just like that. If they speak against Roseanne then they're hated by all Trumpers. If they speak in Roseanne's defense (I doubt they ever would publicly) then they could be next on the chopping block.

While I agree that most people torn down on social media usually deserve it (like that racist lawyer in NY), it's scary just how quickly, viciously and thoroughly "trial-by-social media" can destroy someone.

If I were either of them I'd be afraid to speak up as well. Look what happened to Gilbert and Fishman--they were eviscerated by Trumpers and some even issued threats.

Goodman and Metcalf are in a position equivalent to having a gun pointed at their heads. I believe they're against what Roseanne said but, by saying anything, they're opening themselves up to scathing hatred regardless. It's toxic.

I can see why they wouldn't want to get involved.

Just look at how the Trumpers are going after any and all celebrities who say ANYTHING bad of ANY nature--they're trying to get many other celebrities fired who weren't even saying racist things.

People like you and I are nobodies so it makes no difference what WE say online but Goodman and Metcalf? Whatever they say--SOMEONE will eviscerate them for it for taking one side or the other.

I'm glad I never joined social media--these internet forums are already toxic enough as it is, you know?

reply

I respect them more for staying out of it.
Why should they be to blame for anything she did. They didn't do it.
The fact that they remain silent doesn't mean they don't feel it was wrong but what will them parroting what has already been said do for anyone?

They both know her on a personal basis and may be privy to some mental or physical problems she has. Isn't the entire nation banding against her enough of an outcry?
Why is tweeting some words on their phones make them better people? I find the way the rich and famous use this tactic instead of actually taking action to make the world a better place pretty banal and meaningless.

reply

Yep good riddance. She had many chances to turn a corner towards sanity and decency and she shat all over them. She deserves any and all scorn she's got coming her way.
