Well said. I might not agree with his decision to make The Hobbit three films, but I know his heart is in the right place. There's nothing wrong with caring about making a buck, but Jackson is also artistic. And this is coming from someone who has been VERY critical of him since the announcement for three films.

I think Jackson's move to larger films, is less about him gaining more personal wealth, and more about him keeping the New Zealand film industry at a certain level. Not that other films aren't shot/done there, but that he can't really sustain what hes created with doing another Heavenly Creatures for 5 million dollars.

That's what I think has changed since LOTR's.

I like paying for more material, DVD extensions, Behind the scenes and bigger films, love it! it's your loss man.

Tenakoto, I agree. Peter Jackson knows he will make money BUT he is actually making a quality product that is worthwhile. The film industry is a business, but instead of just producing overblown crap like Michael Bay, Jackson actually cares about the fans.

Actually, I like that he made it three. It was really actually good reasoning. If you watch AUJ, it only goes to roughly 50 pages into The Hobbit. So he really is expanding it to a much larger level.

Yes I saw the same hobbit films you did and it actually wasn't really on him. the love story emphasis he got overruled on. WB screwed him over on that. He wanted it to be more subliminal and not full blown love story but WB screwed him over. There was actually another ten minutes of Battle of the Five Armies he wanted in the movie and he thought it would have made it in but WB ruled him over on that too. He doesn't even know why. He was actually kinda pissed about it. I am actually curious to see what those ten minutes were. He actually didn't even want to direct the films. He also didn't immediately jump on board when Del Toro left. He really just wanted to be a producer and let someone else have their go. But when Del Toro walked away a lot of more had already gone into preproduction and a decision had to be made which Jackson still was reluctant to jump in the chair. At the last possible moment of continuing or shutting down he stepped up and took it. As for the first movie, while they changed some timelines the first movie actually followed the book really well. The second part veered off a bit but in all honesty it kinda had to. There wasn't much that happened in the book that worked visually. The way the elves came into the picture in the book wouldn't really work for the film. It worked in the book because it was a book. To have the orcs/goblins in constant pursuit of the dwarves made sense for the movie and actually thought Tolkien should have written it that way in the book. It doesn't make any sense for the pursuit to stop when the eagles save them and then not see them again til the Battle of the Five Armies. That was also another area I thought Tolkien was lazy on. He get the start of the Battle and then Bilbo gets knocked out and wakes up when its over. You don't get to see the battle at all in the book. I love Tolkien but I think everyone can agree he could have put more into the Battle of the Five Armies. But back to the second movie more action was used and peril because actually in the book not a whole lot happened. It would have been a really really really boring second movie or if they only made it two films, the first half of the second movie would have been really really really boring til Smaug and Bilbo chat. Those are just my thoughts. If you didn't like the love story in the HObbit blame WB not PJ. WB seems to be making the mistake they made with Batman before Nolan took over. Instead of WB standing up to a complaint of a parent taking their five year old to see Batman Returns and complaining that it wasn't appropriate for her child, they should have said hey lady its PG-13 for a reason. But no they told Burton to lighten up the third film to which Burton walked away with Keaton. Forever was decent but not great. But apparently that was too dark as well so they camped it up even more who Joel admits he shouldn't have agreed to it. Apparently on that commentary he spends the whole commentary apologizing for that movie. lol. WB needs to step aside and let the directors make their movies the way they want to make their movies.
