Is Meryl Streep Overrated?

Trump made me think about her acting.

Seriously, is she overrated? Can she do it all?

I think she is a better dramatic actress than comedic actress, but that is my opinion; however, she did great in the Devil Wears Prada. I don't think her roles that require singing and dancing are what she does best. I mean, I think Ricki and the Flash and Mamma Mia might've been even better with different actresses. I know she was annoyed that she didn't get the role of Evita, but I just don't think she would've done any better than Madonna.

Still, her dramatic roles are raw emotion, stunning and first rate. Sophie's Choice and Kramer Vs Kramer are where her art shines.

I guess she is a skilled actress but she has no charisma which makes her boring to watch. In her most memorable movies, she was not the main star. If the Oscars didn't nominate her just for the hell of it every year, she would've been forgotten long ago. So yes she is overrated.

She's boring, unattractive and chooses the same sort of role and always in something that only a handful of pretentious snobs in new york and LA bother with.

I would really like to know what that "same role" is.

The roles she plays also seem to include making fun of someone she doesn't have a clue about...Florence Foster Jenkins and Margaret Thatcher come to mind right away. I've always thought she was a bit over-rated, but in the last 10 or so years she's become extremely over-rated and extremely annoying

Yes.

Yes, I agree with Donald. I certainly don't think she is as amazing as all the awards and nominations, she has received, would suggest. They vote like sheep in hollywood. There is so much BS hype for her I think they feel obliged to nominate her for everything she does.

reply

Yes.

They are nominating her for awards out of reflex these days, not for any merit.
