When virtue signaling goes wrong...

Neeson a progressive tool obviously told this story to push the idea that yes, this racist white man is admitting his faults and repenting, others should do the same. He seems to have forgotten the totalitarian atmosphere he has helped create in the industry and the entire West.

reply

This was the exact opposite of 'virtue signalling'.

Virtue signalling is where a person goes to great pains to signal their 'superior' virtue by presenting themselves as flawless individuals who have never experienced a single transgressive thought in their life (see Chris Evans or Mark Ruffalo). Neeson did something that was, although misguided, almost admirable. He admitted he was, or had been, a deeply flawed individual. He didn't pretend he was the only white man who had never done anything wrong (see most Millennials).

reply

I have to admit those guys you mentioned Evans and ruffalo are pretty embarrassing on their twitters pretending he's like Cap America whiter than white for real its gone to his head. I can't imagine any kids looking to them as 'cool'

reply

Whiter than white
Indeed.

These guys think they're literal white knights, particularly Evans who never displayed such socially-conscious instincts before he was cast as Captain America. It really does seem like the role has gone to his head, even as he ignores the problematic implications of a blond blue-eyed Aryan looking guy called 'Captain America' policing the world.

Evans must think we've all forgotten about the time he called Black Widow a 'slut'. It was only four years ago.

Think the 'coolest' actors are the ones not on twitter/SM as you just know they think its all BS and the world has gone nuts (Ford, Eastwood, Connery etc)

reply

I loathe Twitter. It's done more harm than good.

I don't want to know what political party these actors support. Just do your job. Act!*

* That applies to everyone, liberal and conservative.

reply

the only actor that springs to mind who tweets like a mofo but dosnt engage in politics/SJW stuff is Shatner - hes tweets are quite fun to read..and he often replies to fans/trolls etc...another one is James Woods who does do politics stuff/proTrump but hes hilarious like genuinely LOL at all the SJ BS

but overall Twitter/SM has totally destroyed the mystique of Hollywood stars and hollywood in general (as now everyones on twitter writers, producers all having their say and usually its about bashing trump/SJW stuff)..and you can kind of see them for just what they are - just regular people who went to drama school or whatever and then got lucky and rich in films (before I guess everyone knew that anyway but it brings it to the front in a way where when they constantly tweeting pics of themselves doing everyday stuff)..and now they want to remain 'in' and popular so they take to twitter and go on about stuff follow the tide. I guess those not on twitter are the ones who disapprove of it all prefer the old ways and are too famous rich and no need to be on it to promote themselves.

reply

Like I say, I don't approve or care for the Tweets whether they're lib or con. One way or another, it can only end in tears.

But if it's just humorous stuff, like you say Shatner's are, that's cool. I don't even mind when it's banal philosophical ramblings. What I hate is the politically partisan stuff.

And yes, SM has destroyed the mystique. Maybe these stars think it brings them closer to their fans. But that's BS. They're multi-millionaires; not ordinary joes. They should embrace the glamour, and stop pretending they're just like us. They're not. And there's nothing wrong with that.

reply

Worst thing is the total lack of self-awareness.

Do you think Ruffalo gives a damn the amount of fossil fuels and the carbon footprint that's been made by these huge films regularly? No. He probably rides in private jets all the time, even if he doesn't own one himself.

reply

Virtue signaling, I haven't heard that term but it's a good one. I don't think that is what he is doing but I still appreciate the phrase.

I believe Neeson is secure, his career is waning, there is really nothing to lose, and it creates a healthy dialog.

reply

I think he misread the room, badly. He probably felt he'd come across as "woke", and he'd get mad respect for being honest....and starting an open and honest dialogue. Nope. The angry mobs don't want to forgive....they want to castigate. They want payback--their pound of flesh.

reply

Why he revealed that in today's environment I will never understand.

reply

Maybe he was drunk. That's about the only time I imagine anyone saying something like that.

reply

interesting take. u may be very right with what is going on...

reply

Yup, he definitely thought it'd be received differently. hahah

reply

Fucking whackos believe that everything that comes out of anyone's mouth which isn't massaging their absurd sense of alienation is virtue signalling.

Get a life.
