One of the better Bonds
Sad what the franchise has come to.
shareVery true.
Worth remembering as well that post Lazenby, if Sir Roger hadn't been the massive success he was, we probably wouldn't be discussing James Bond as a franchise today...
Right on the money. MOore invented the "different" Bond concept.
shareThe concept had existed as one-offs in the form of Lazenby and all the people who subbed for Bond in the original Casino Royale, but Moore gave the replacement of Bond an officiality in that he could carry the torch for several pictures (arguably more than Connery did if you discount NEVER SAY NEVER).
I think Lazenby could have grown into a regular Bond actor had he done another movie. He didn't make the same impression Connery did and wasn't that great of an actor, but he wasn't terrible by any stretch. His sole movie was aided immeasurably by his chemistry with Diana Rigg who was one of the best Bond girls, plus all that lovely alpine photography.
Moore I liked up to a point though I found myself getting pretty tired of him in each picture before the movie ended. My favorite of his was probably his worst (or second worst), which was MOONRAKER, just because it was so big, dumb and fun. His "best" was probably SPY WHO LOVED ME, but man did that movie feel overlong and suffer from similarities with THUNDERBALL and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. A lot of people love OCTOPUSSY but I really found that one insufferable and illogical.
Moore is second only to Connery.
