Has he ever played...

... a character with a spine? I love the guy. but I've just watched Magnolia and it got me thinking: has he ever played a character who wasn't a sad sack or a pushover?

I've seen him in: Fargo, Boogie Nights, Bart Got a Room, Magnolia, Jurassic Park 3 (*shudder*), Mystery Men (*double shudder*) and probably a few others that I can't remember, and the characters ranged from unassuming nice guys to pitiful weeds. Can anybody name me a film where he played a strong character? I'm sure he could do it, but I'm having a hard time picturing it.

Yes in cellular he was a pretty good badass

Perhaps you missed Air Force One?

Nope, but it was so crap that, Harrison Ford badassery aside, I'd erased the majority of it from memory :-p

The Lincoln Lawyer

He plays some ex soldier in The Maiden Heist and is pretty "badass" in that while Morgan Freeman and Christopher Walken both play a bit more "wussy" characters.

Check out Edmond. He's got backbone in Spartan also, but he doesn't get much screen time.
