Only 26 in Jurassic Park?

Jesus Christ. I thought she was in her early 40's. Such bad genetics.

Ugly will do that

I'm not sure of her age but I'll tell you what - I've always found her to be one seriously overrated actress.

Part of the equation is how old were you when you first watched it?

When we're young, we tend to estimate those that are older as much older than they are (or appear). This is especially true when that person is in a position of significance, such as a subject matter expert in their field, which makes them seem even older to a young mind's perspective.

She was born in 1967, so she would have been 25 in 1992 when the movie was being filmed.

reply

I thought she was 31.

reply

Yeah I thought she was early 30's.

It makes sense. She is a contemporary of Eric Stoltz, who acted with Laura in Mask (made in 1984) and Haunted Summer (made in 1987). He turned 30 in 1991.

Also born in 1961 is Alexander Payne who not only directed Laura in Citizen Ruth (1996) but shared a joint birthday party with her in 2014. Back to Stoltz, Laura attended the same drama class as him - "The Loft Studio" on La Brea Avenue in L.A. Other classmates include Meg Ryan (born in 1961), John Philbin (born in 1960) and Meg Tilly (born in 1960).

I've been browsing Google Newspapers for any slip-ups, and it turns out that there are 1980 newspapers which refer to Laura as being 14 despite the fact that she would have been 13 after February in that year if the 1967 birthdate is true.

I always thought she was quite a bit older than she really was.

reply

Well, she made up for it with her constant willingness to do full nudity. Nepotism helped, too.

Some people look mature when they're young, and that's actually a huge asset for a character actor, because such people don't age like the rest of us. Instead of going from young to old, they look like they're in midlife for 50-60 years, and never seem to age!

Patrick Stewart and Angela Kandbury are good examples, they both played people in the prime of life from their 20s to their 80s. Dern might do the same.

I don't understand why people are dumping on this woman.

I'm no particular fan -- she was OK in JP -- But, I don't see where/why she deserves this rancor.🙄
