dan3959 You miss the entire point of what I'm saying. We are seeing more and more celebrities get picked up for DUI it seems every week. From Lindsay Lohan to Mel Gibson to Kiefer Sutherland (and not his first either) Nicole Richie , Tracy Morgan and now this and I'm sure I'm missing several others over the past 12 months. In comparison to the general population, no, I'm not suggesting celebrities get nailed for DUI more but let's face it, it's pathetic these people are running around doing this and then getting free publicity for it almost as if it were some sort of joke. Not to mention the standard it's setting for others.

Fact is that drunk driving is not really taken all that seriously in the U.S. Only when someone ends up dying does the system step up the penalties. And you're crazy to think I wish someone dead in this situation, but you know perhaps another rich, spoiled out-of-control celebrity who ends up killing someone while hammered behind the wheel will finally send the message that doing this under any circumstances as public figures is unacceptable. I do stand corrected about this point however as Lane Garrison from Prison Break recently got a three year sentence for killing a 17 year old while intoxicated behind the wheel, difference being the kid was in the car with him.

To hell with your argument about what percentage of these idiots compared to the rest get caught for it. You're talking semantics here. It's time to start taking away driver's licences for a set period of time in excess of one or two years for first offences and lifetime bans for multiple convictions along with serious jail time like we've seen with Sutherland.
