Michelle Yeoh. Jet Li. Chow Yun-Fat. Jackie Chan. All were Asian Martial Arts performer who transitions into genuine A-List Hollywood fame. Though these legendary Martial Arts performers have had a long, lustrous career. It seems performers of this magnitude are becoming fewer and far between. Actors like Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa are mainstays in the industry, but the Martial Arts transition to Hollywood has been in a drastic decline.

Besides Ip man and Mortal Kombat, yeah you don't see these hitting large. The MMA world's talent pool is raw with fighters yet hasn't developed many familiar stars. Jackie Chan and Seagal still have a cult following and put in new performances though. This could be due to audience perception.

I think it's still doing okay in various Asian countries, but it's not being done great in the U.S anymore. Recently watched newly released series American Born Chinese and it just wasn't living up to its potential.

It will make a comeback within the next 3 decades. There is more competition for anything closely resembling fame these days, so the candidate to succeed the past masters must be very special to be noticed.

Yeah. Now they just have the actors fake it using a combination of stunt doubles and CGI and it seems like most people don’t care.

Back in the day it seemed like audiences needed to believe the people on screen could do the moves IRL, but nowadays not so much.

I had hopes for Tony jaa as the next big thing after being blown away by his stunts and fight scenes in The Protector and Ong Bak.

but i think his lack of english is what held him back
