Upcoming Projects (News, Rumors, Speculation, Hopes and Dreams)

looks like the previous thread of this kind got deleted so i decided to make a new one.

in any case, it's been around two months since hostiles wrapped filming and no new projects for bale have been announced. here's hoping he doesn't take another longer break and that something surfaces sooner rather than later. maybe something with a spring start date.

here are some films i'm hoping against hope to see bale cast in:

triple frontier - jc chandor
a crime thriller set in the notorious border zone in south america. been waiting for this ever since kathryn bigelow was set to direct. back then apparently bale along with many other actors were approached about the film but it got delayed and bigelow eventually moved on to other things but chandor is a great replacement.

ad astra - james gray
scifi. astornauts are tasked to retrieve one of their own - who's suffered a mental breakdown in space - back to earth. this is another one thats been stuck in development for a few years now. it's also probably the most expensive project that gray has made so he would benefit from having a well known actor like bale on board.

black money - coen brothers
crime. private eye lew archer investigates a woman's disappearance and uncovers a conspiracy involving an old suicide and a ton of gambling debts. coens directing and bale playing a private investigator in a period piece. what's not to like?

strangers - david fincher
a remake of strangers on a train. i'm not big on remaking classics nor the acting of ben affleck (who's set to play the other lead character) but david fincher's been on a roll with his latest films. before fincher left the steve jobs film he wanted bale to play the title character so hopefully they can team up on this one instead.

I hope Bale picks something that looks good with a better pace. I liked the big short but he was barely in it. The Promise has been getting some mixed reviews from people I know who've watched it in Toronto and Hostiles sounds like it'll be a very long and boring movie. Not trying to sound like a hater but it sounds like another understated role from Bale which he does proficiently but I want to see him play a louder role again

Strangers would be great and it would be humorous on the side if Bale and Affleck star together due to the imminent "batman v batman" talk if Bale signs on

Those might indeed be interesting projects. I didn't care for Hail Caesar! but the Coens do some great stuff. I'd love Bale to work with Fincher - despite their different preference regarding number of takes  and since they both apparently wanted to work with each other I suppose there's hope of that happening (sooner or later). JC Chandor's work I like, too. Gotta say I'm not that familiar with James Gray's work, though. I think I've only seen his first feature Little Odessa ages ago and don't really remember it.

Denis Villeneuve at some point maybe. Yorgos Lanthimos might be interesting. McKay again I hope (I'm sure they both want to). Etc.

Something is probably (hopefully) cooking, we just don't know about it, yet.

apparently michael mann also likes to film a bunch of different takes of a single scene and bale almost worked with him again so maybe there's still hope that he and fincher will collaborate.

i'm not actually that big of a fan of james gray's films but from what i've read about ad astra it sounds like it could be great and i'd like to see bale do some scifi for a change.

villineuve and bale almost worked together on enemy so it's certainly possible their paths will cross in the future.

too bad mckay seems to be moving away from comedy cause i was hoping he'd be able to lure bale into a comedy film. i think he's filming a movie about dick cheney in the spring and certain someone looks to be available at that time.  but bale's probably too young to play cheney.

He should have done a film with Fincher by now. Bale and Fincher are a great match for each other. Coens are a good choice but I doubt they want to cast Bale in their film.

I don't know if Bale would want to talk multiple takes since he's the type of actor who wants to get things over with to not lose momentum. Not sure if Bale could work with Fincher's style of directing. I remember an interview where he said it's akin to a comedian saying the same Joke to a point where it loses its effect. It's the same for taking 30 takes for an emotional scene.

They are both attached to the Steve Jobs bio-pic before opting out. Didn't Bale said something like that he won't do the film if Fincher is not directing or am I just assuming things?
