I cant imagine someone with as much artisctic integrity as Spielberg would be okay with the current state of Hollywood. There are few who I think could say something and still be respected in Hollywood.
He's part of the cabal and prolly holds a high rank in the decision making process - him being silent tells me that much of what we see today in the weirdwood was approved by him.
He might be in disagreement when it comes to the filmmaking process: a lot of movies released in the recent years have been a little on the nose. For example, what is trendy to call "woke". The message or intention could hardly be more explicit. Spielberg, on the other hand, seems to have a different approach to the craft. The subtext in a lot of his films remains hidden under the guise of popular blockbuster films, perfect for the "popcorn crunchers" of all ages. It's not about extraterrestrials, dinosaurs or AI; but something else entirely.
Whereas Scorsese has lost none of his energy and genius in his eighties, Spielberg has really slowed down. He’s still making films but they’re lacklustre, sprinkled with woke messaging, and sometimes overtly political (The Post was his attempt to prop up the incinerated reputation of the Democrat-run mainstream media) - a far cry from awesome stuff like Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones.
His best films have people dying, he seems to have stopped making them 🤷🏻♂️
His great artistry has been subsumed by his awful politics, and Leftists are starting to realise they’ve been on the wrong side of history for a long time now. Like the once great Rob Reiner, Spielberg just seems… lost.
Remember when he adopted a kid from a poor country when it was the trendy thing to do for the Hollywood glitterati? That kid grew up to become a pornstar. Spielberg’s tablea rasa worldview is collapsing before his very eyes.
Still, he can dry his tears on his copious wealth. He’s still making gajillions producing the terrible Jurassic World films and other projects, but he stopped making worthwhile films twenty years ago.
"and sometimes overtly political (The Post was his attempt to prop up the incinerated reputation of the Democrat-run mainstream media) -"
Overtly political? Because he took a left wing position rather than right wing one?
If he had took the conservative , republican position, and just said Nixon was the greatest thing ever, you'd have been totally OK with it , right? It's not that he made a political film, it's that he didn't take your political side on the issue.
Oh no! The publishing of the pentagon papers!! Which uncovered countless breaches of the constitution. Well, who cares about the constitution right?? Only stupid lefty liberals. That's all the consitution was! Bunch of lefty liberal nonsense. Burn the consitution! USA! USA!
Okay, he didn't direct it, but it was HIS production company. So arguably he had even more to do with it than a director since he owns Amblin entertainment.
You think directors have final cut, or any say whatsoever in making their own films anymore? In 2024?
They just do whatever their producers tell them.
I suppose George Lucas had absolutely nothing to do with Empire Strikes Back or Raiders of the Lost Arc, according to you? Because he wasn't the director.
He probably does approve considering Jurassic Park was a film that hardly anyone would've watched if it didn't have CGI dinosaurs in it. He practically invented the sfx driven movie industry.
Regardless of whether or not Spielberg approves of today's film industry he has proven to be a coward by not speaking out against a vastly cheapened product.
