In the late eighties through much of the nineties, Michelle Pfeiffer was one of the hottest leading ladies in Hollywood. Around the start of the 21st century, Pfeiffer’s career started to cool off. To some extent, that was due to Pfeiffer starting a family with TV producer David E. Kelley. In this interview from the April 2002 issue of Movieline magazine, Pfeiffer talked with Stephen Rebello about motherhood, whether or not she is difficult to get to know and how she creates chemistry with notoriously prickly leading men like Sean Penn and Harrison Ford.

Her career in this century could have been better. She almost worked with Sean Penn again on Mystic River (2003). She was originally cast as Celeste Boyle then Marcia Gay Harden got the part. Michelle was considered for the role that Diane Lane played in Under the Tuscan Sun (2003). Michelle dropped out of Infamous (2006), and her role went to Hope Davis.

Michelle was attached to play Roxie Hart in Chicago (2002) before Renée Zellweger did. Michelle was considered for the role of Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale (2006) and she turned down what became Tilda Swinton's role as the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2004). She was also announced to be a part of A Prairie Home Companion (2006) but then Virginia Madsen played her role instead.
