Not The Best Thing in Chuck

Don't get me wrong, I love Linda Hanilton and nothing she does will ever compare to Sarah Connor; but after Pugsinator posted a Getty image of her, looking quite haggard with middle age (graceful if you ask me), you can tell she's had plenty of time to pay a 90210 plastic surgeon to make her young again. Not only that, but compared to the rest of the cast, she has minimal lines (including those on her botoxed face!) and comes across as pretty average. If anything, Timothy Dalton is the real surprise in season 4 of Chuck and is clearly having a ball as Alexi Volkoff. Linda's just in it for the pay cheque (who can blame her?) but the bottom line is that they haven't written to her strengths (unusual by that show's standards).

And if I ever chose to do so, I wouldn't link to a photo to make a point about how bad she looks, accompanied by some glib comment like 'Is this for real?' My guess is the people who do so have little better to do. I don't find aging particularly shocking, as those people apparently do.

I prefer to focus on things like how (in my opinion) she (LH) brought to life the most dynamic and memorable action heroine ever committed to film. And in so doing revolutionized action roles for women. And her recent appearances at conventions (where many of the aforementioned pictures are being taken) indicates she seems to be embracing and enjoying that legacy more than she used to. Which is nice to see.

Just a mix-up, I know, but I'm just setting the record straight in that it wasn't me who linked to the referred-to photo.

I don't watch Chuck myself, but I have watched some of the episodes she's been in. So I have no real basis of comparison for knowing how her character is affecting the overall cast dynamic. (But I did get a kick out of her 'Come with me if you want to live' line.) About the only thing I've noted is that whenever her character does something very physical, they always seem to have her turn away from the camera, so I assume they're doing that to substitute in stuntwomen for ass-kicking moments.

It looks like they soft-focused her face like Calista Flockhart in Supergirl.
