Hitler very much thought of the Jews as a RACE. Thus the Holocaust was, inarguably, "about race". Whoopi has an Americanized-view of "racism", that it's only white vs. black. That was not the definition of "racism" that Hitler used.
You hit the nail on the head. The whole American centric view that white people can't be oppressed and that only people of color can be discriminated against has twisted any logic that comes from their minds.
There has been deep rooted racism and just as much atrocity committed between the Japanese and Chinese over the course of history as any other two groups of people, but Americans will see them both as one race due to their limited world view.
We see the same thing here. White Germans killing white Jews can't be about race to them. But it clearly is.
